Part 3: Nostalgia

There is no such thing as future music. There is only present music. It is a kind of irony that this piece will always showcase the contemporary as new futures keep arriving. AI models—or any future technological entities functioning as the principal creators in this piece—will continue to become more advanced. Whatever they create, whether it imitates human creation or generates something genuinely novel, will always be up to date. The piece does not predict the future. It assumes only that it will continue to inhabit the present in the future—infinitely provisional, no matter how much time passes. In the meantime, my original composition, presented today, may be performed unchanged in the future, becoming outdated, nostalgic, and almost illusory, while the machine’s provisional creation remains the latest. Yet my composition, as a human creation, will acquire different meanings over time as a snapshot of a particular historical moment. In this sense, it too may remain present in the future. Perhaps, Until humanity pursues machines. Until it passes through the technological singularity. Until machines surpass human creativity. Until human motivation evaporates. Until machines develop their own motivation to explore, venture, dream, and create. And until they desire to become like the human beings of the past, entering an era of postmachinism. And so on…
